Why You Should Detox & 3 Natural Ways to Do It!

You wake up at 7:00 a.m. after a full night’s rest. You sluggishly walk to the bathroom, brush your teeth, and then you examine yourself in the mirror. Your skin is irritated, your eyes are puffy, and you’re clueless as to why you’re so exhausted; even though, you have spent the last few months eating pizza, lemon pepper wings, and enjoying every happy hour in town at least four days a week. Not to mention the fact that you subject yourself to a toxic environment on a daily basis. Although, the environment is out of our control, we do have total control over the things we put into our bodies and the products that we use.

The unexplained fatigue, irritated skin, and puffy/baggy eyes are all some of the symptoms of needing a serious detox. Detoxification is simply the process of cleansing the blood and ridding the body of harmful toxins. Along with eliminating the aforementioned symptoms, detoxing can also alleviate allergies, bloating, low-grade infection, menstrual issues, and aid in weight loss.

The first step you should take before beginning any type of detox regimen is to cut back on the toxins you are allowing to enter your body. These things include the food and drinks you are consuming as well as the products you are using. You want to do away with alcohol consumption, sugars, saturated fats, and smoking. It is also important to find natural personal hygiene products (i.e. soaps and deodorants) that aren’t loaded with harmful chemicals that are counterproductive to your detox process.

After you have completed the first step, you want to figure out what method of detoxing will best fit you. There are many ways to detox. Here are a few to get you started.

Detox (Infused) Water. Drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day are recommended to avoid dehydration, but infusing water with fruits/veggies can help to flush out toxins as well. They contain zero calories, and there are many variations of detox water you can create. For example, a cucumber, lemon, and mint mix is great for weight loss. Cucumbers have anti-inflammatory properties and also help you to avoid water retention. Lemons remove toxins from your digestive tract and burn fat. Mint also helps with digestion and gives the water a bit of sweetness without the use of sugar.

Detox Tea. The best detox teas are green or black teas. They contain the antioxidants needed to clear our bodies of free radicals and oxidative stress. Freeing our bodies of these things are so important because if we do not, we open ourselves up to very serious problems such as mutated DNA strains and chronic inflammation that leads to cancer. Adding herbs such as dandelion, ginger, or lemongrass can aid the liver in its natural detoxifying process.

Cilantro & Pascalite Clay. Using cilantro and clay is probably the least known way to clear your body of neurotoxins. Neurotoxins disrupt nerve transmission, which can lead to brain fog, chronic fatigue, depression, and muscle spasms. Heavy metals are types of neurotoxins that plague our bodies. Cilantro and a form of bentonite clay known as pascalite clay, can assist in eliminating them from our bodies. Cilantro consumption accelerates the excretion of aluminum and lead from the body. To prevent metals from being deposited into the colon, using pascalite clay in combination with cilantro is recommended. You want to ingest ¼ of a cup of cilantro leaves and stems a day, along with 1 or 2 teaspoons of pascalite clay mixed in water three times a day.

Environmental factors, the foods we eat, and the products we use have a huge impact on our health. It is very important to give our bodies a much needed tune-up from time to time in the form of a detox to feel more energetic, functional, and healthy. Try one or all of these detox methods for a more refreshed and renewed you.
